Evidence (2018)

Nice walk in the bush?

Monstrous mistake.

Evidence is a short 'monster' horror. Girlfriends Jess and Riley meet for a day of bushwalking, to plan an upcoming trip and photograph nature. In this idyllic setting nothing could prepare them for what happens when they innocently walk over a hidden cave. Jess disappears and as Riley searches for her, she witnesses Jess get taken into a cave. Riley’s camera falls down a cliff, to join many cameras that are piling up, evidence that this monster has been taking people for decades.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Horror values emotions over details and as such becomes a personal exploration, requiring an examination of our past and how memories can be blown out of proportion. A story you heard or a recalled experience can become blurred and the gaps filled with your fears.

Creating monsters is what we do in our minds all the time, but to show our monsters, our fears, to others, and have them recognised, is both gratifying and terrifying. There are some really interesting female horror makers telling female stories whose voices are not only necessary, but are adding layers to the genre we haven't seen before. I'm excited to be making something so raw, and collaborating with other emerging creatives.
